Aromatherapy

Application : How best to apply the oils - see below.

BH - Bath
Add some essential oil drops to a hot bath. Put the oils in after running the water. Typically 5 to 10 drops.
 
BU - Burner
Add a few drops to a little water on a ceramic oil burner which uses a night candle or a few drops onto a ceramic electric light bulb ring. For a slower release rate, put a few drops onto some tissue paper and allow the oils to evaporate - this is particularly good for aiding sleep.
 
CO - Compress
Use sheets of clean material, soaked in a bowl of hot water and oils, and then wrapped around the area to be treated. An outer layer of thin plastic sheet helps retain the vapours for a treatment time of a few hours.

CR - Cream
Add a few drops into a neutral carrier cream for application onto the skin.
 
FO - Food / Drink
May be taken internally as a 'herbal tea' or part of a food recipe. This option should not be attempted unless you are fully aware of what you are doing. Many essential oils are widespread throughout the food industry but others are extremely toxic. Take care with dosage.
 
FR - Fragrance
Add a few drops of oil into an alcohol base ( e.g. high proof vodka - high proof vodka does not smell of "liquor" ) and use as a perfume / scent.
 
FT - Footbath
Add a few drops in a bowl of warm water and immerse feet.

GA - Gargle
Add one drop to a beaker of fresh water and use as a mouth or throat gargle. Do not swallow.
 
IH - Inhaler
Add a few drops into of bowl of steaming water and inhale the fumes. Alternatively, put one or two drops onto a tissue and carefully inhale ( not too close ).
 
MA - Massage
Mix the essential oils into a carrier oil. 1 drop of essential oil to 2ml of carrier oil.
 
NT - Neat
Apply a few drops of undiluted oil using a cotton wool bud.
 
SH - Shampoo / Conditioner / Rinse
Mix oils into a shampoo or conditioner base for hair treatment, or a water rinse for medicinal use.
